One of the largest shorebirds in the world, the Eurasian Curlew has been recorded 3 times in Massachusetts, all in the 1970s and 1980s. No records have been review by the Committee to date, and we are attempting to secure photos of the 1984 bird. The 1976 and 1978 records can be found in American Birds (31:232) and American Birds (32:310).
Eurasian Curlews can be confused with Far Eastern Curlews and Long-billed Curlews with poor views; note the white rump and white wing linings of Eurasian, easily seen in flight.
